Hi,
Your question is very interesting and of much interest among patients with glucose imbalance including pre-diabetic.
The main rule I recommend to my patients regarding the foods and drinks to consume is to look at the labels or calorie content of the foods.
Let’s talk about grapes. The are considered among healthy fruit choice that would reduce your risk to have high triglycerides or cardiovascular events. This is due to anti-oxidant components of grapes.
Apart this healthy component, they are also high in carbohydrates. So, one cup serving of grapes contain around 16 grams of carbohydrates, from which 1 gram is of fiber and 15 grams of sugar. While diabetics are advised to eat around 15 carbohydrates of sugars per day. You can see yourself that one cup of grapes is enough for diabetics or pre-diabetics to eat each day.
However, do not forget to alternate with other fruits all day long.
Next, the glycemic index of one portion of grapes is 46. Usually, foods with GI less than 55 are considered safe for diabetics or prediabetics. As you may note, grapes have low GI enough to consider safe for diabetics/prediabetics.
All the best.
